Current Situation:
The Dominican government has just announced quarantine extension till May 25th, 2020.
The Dominican Republic which closed its borders on March 19, 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic has remained on lockdown for over one month. The state of emergency and (5 pm – 6 am) curfew imposed remain in effect until May 27th, 2020. It is currently unknown if President Danilo Medina will extend the state of emergency, whose deadline is on May 25, 2020. Even though there is no confirmation yet as to whether or not it will be extended, the end of the lockdown may not be in sight yet, as the country’s Minister of Health, Rafael Sanchez Cardenas, said on Monday that the conditions to lift the national curfew and state of emergency are not prevalent just yet.
There are currently 7288 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the Dominican Republic, according to reports from local newspapers. This figure represents only about 0.049769% of the country’s population of approx. 10.85 million (2020). So far, 313 deaths have been recorded as a result of the coronavirus in the Dominican Republic, representing to about 24 deaths per one million people. As at the time of filing this report, 1387 patients have recovered (47 in the last 24 hours). This figure may have changed as the situation continues to develop.
The country’s National District, which includes the Capitol, Santo Domingo, has recorded most of the Covid-19 cases. Fortunately, the main tourist areas, including Punta Cana and La Romana where Casa de Campo Resort is located have recorded a low presence of the virus, as reported earlier.
On a positive note, the PGA TOUR recently announced that the golf tournament, at Los Corales Punta Cana club which was postponed in March, would resume from September 21 / 27 for the 2020-2021 season. So, we anticipate this amazing event this fall.
