NEW GOLF COURSE
Exciting Debut: Las Iguanas Golf Course in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic We recently had the thrill of teeing off at the emerging Las Iguanas Golf Course within Cap Cana Resort, right here in the Dominican Republic! The back nine are already open and stunning, featuring dramatic holes that weave toward and beside the sparkling Caribbean Sea. This latest gem from golf legend Jack Nicklaus is being finalized by Troy Vincent, a top designer at Nicklaus Design. Insights from Golf Course Architecture highlight how Las Iguanas stands apart from Cap Cana's original Jack Nicklaus Signature layout, Punta Espada (which debuted in 2006): "The key distinction lies in the oceanfront elements. Punta Espada boasts eight holes by the sea, whereas Las Iguanas features the 12th green right up against the waves, the par-three 13th running parallel to the shore, and the 14th tees pulling away from it. Plus, Las Iguanas incorporates 10 scenic lakes that provided material for shaping the rolling fairways and greens."
A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
How does it compare to Cap Cana’s original Nicklaus Signature, Punta Espada (opened in 2006)? Las Iguanas offers a different rhythm. Instead of Punta Espada’s eight ocean holes, Las Iguanas meets the sea at the twelfth green, runs the par‑3 thirteenth alongside it, and then turns inland from the fourteenth tees. Ten interior lakes double as strategic features and as sources of fill that created graceful contours across fairways and greens, adding texture without sacrificing playability. The full 18 is slated for completion in 2026, setting up another must‑play experience within the resort. If you’re planning a trip to Punta Cana or Cap Cana later this year or next, reach out to request advance tee times for Las Iguanas as openings roll out. Until then, you can still tee it up at the spectacular Punta Espada—regularly ranked by Golfweek among the top three courses in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America—while you count down to Las Iguanas’ grand debut.
